Covid-19 in Haiti and Government & measures to slow the spread of COVID-19
The first case of coronavirus pandemic was confirmed to have reached Haiti in March 2020. As of 3rd Apr 2020 there have been 16 confirmed cases and zero deaths.
- The President of Haiti announced a number of measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Haiti, including that its borders, ports, and airports will be closed and commercial flights will be suspended with the exception of transportation of merchandise, and the captains and the pilots of cargo vessels/planes. Eastern Airlines has been authorized to operate a flight from Port au Prince to the United States on 9th April.
- The Ministry of health has quarantine measures in effect but they are prioritizing home quarantine. The situation might change with the evolution of COVID-19.
- The Haitian Ministry of Health (MSPP) have set up isolation mechanisms for suspected patients while they are conducting the test for COVID-19.
- The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a US$20 million grant for the Haiti COVID-19 Response Project. This project aims to respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 through testing and improved treatment in Haiti.
